The creation of the first shopping center for the City of Melilla is the goal established by Drago with the Melilla Park project. To achieve this, we have partnered, through the company of Tres Forcas, with Grupo Murias for its construction while the commercialization is carried out by the firm LyC Consulting.
The shopping center will be located on the grounds of the old Valenzuela barracks and will have a gross leasable area (GLA) of 34,600 square meters distributed in two open levels, with a parking of 1,350 vehicles. It will be a medium-size shopping center in a mixed format with an area that will host a hypermarket and units -medium or small- for fashion and services and other units where larger commercial operators will be installed.
Melilla Park has been designed as a totally open center, to facilitate to its visitors the transition between its different zones, taking advantage at the same time, of the excellent climate of Melilla. The center is developed in two connecting blocks, although independent, the connection between the different zones of the center take precedence through large open spaces. The entire center opens to the Gran Plaza which acts as an access, and will host gardens and leisure areas for Melilla’s residents, as well as a parking area and connections with the different elements of the shopping center.
The works have already begun and during the different phases it is estimated that about 1,200 people will work in the construction of the commercial center and in the adaptation and urbanization of the area. The entire project involves an investment of about 50 million euros and will generate around 580 direct jobs and about 800 indirect jobs when it opens its doors.
With this shopping center, Melilla will no longer be the only Spanish region that does not have this format in its commercial offer and will serve to give entry to emblematic brands that still do not have presence in the Autonomous City and nearby Moroccan populations, such as Nador. The population of the catchment area of Melilla Park counts on a total of almost 400,000 inhabitants.
